Pros and Cons

There are both positive and negative things to teenage curfew. Some of the arguments against teen curfew are if a child is coming home from a school related event, a job, or something along the lines of that. Because they are coming home late, they are forced to worry about the time and want to rush home, which can cause wreckless driving and therefore danger. Another thing is curfew was intended to prevent crime but some people believe people who are committing crimes will still commit the crimes, just earlier in the day.

Some arguments for teen curfew are that is really helps prevent crime in youth involving drugs, violence and gangs. Imposing youth curfews can help prevent these actions from occurring because children need to be off the streets and in a home before the hours of darkness, which hopefully will keep them out of trouble. There is no good reason for children to be out late at night when they should be home interacting with family and friends in a safe enviroment. Zero tolerance is a really important rule in some comunnitites and teenage curfew is a way of putting zero tolerance into effect.

The worst of the worst

There was a series of shootings in a town called Malden and the all the shootings really shook up the neighborhood and the people in it. The idea of making a curfew for children under seventeen was an idea and the city voted on whether they agreed or not. Some of the parents did not agree saying that if they make a curfew, they are punishing all kids under seventeen, when all of them are not bad. Other parents think the curfew will help keep the kids safer and in line.

A pervious nurse hated the part of her job when she had to tell parents that their teenage child didn't survive. She is happy with the new law that states teenagers have a nighttime curfew and other limitations in the first six months of getting their license. Part of the law states that new teen drivers will be prohibited from driving midnight until 5 a.m. and they can have no more than one passenger in the car.

A mother is struggling with her daughter who is dating a "not so good" older boy. He turned down a full football scholarship and drank heavily. He is now delievering pizza and is not a good person. The daughter stays out past curfew and does not obey her parents. The parents are not sure if they should make her curfew earlier or what they should do.

The curfew for children under eight teen is they cannot be out from eleven p.m to six a.m Sunday through Thursday nights. Friday and Saturday night, the time will extend to midnight. The fine that will need to be payed is on hundred dollars. The ony exception is if the child is chaperoned by adults, attending a planned community activity, or traveling to and from work.

Some laws state have different penalties for curfew. Some make you pay a fine, some just send you home, others give you a warning, and in some cases, jail time is involved. For example, in St. Louis, if you get busted for curfew you must pay five hundred dollars and serve jail time for 90 days. Also in St. Louis, the parents must pick their children up from the police station witihin 45 minutes and if they don't, thet must lso pay 500 dollars and serve 90 days in jail.

There are many reasons and things that communities offer to make their town safer and keep kids from breaking curfew laws. Some of the things are as follows: anit-drug programs, anti-gang programs, help hotlines and follow up services, community recreation and job programs, and many more. These communities believe that if the kids are involed in the cummunity, they won't get in trouble with the law.
